To ensure the sustainability of fish stocks - please remember the following:
- Barramundi have a legal size limit of 55-80cm for the Lower Ord and Fitzroy River systems.
- In the Lower Ord and Broome areas, a possession limit of 1 Barramundi per angler applies. Elsewhere within WA, a bag limit of 2 Barramundi per person applies.
- All Barramundi start life as male fish and depending upon habitat and food source, change to female fish at about 80cm.
- Barramundi may only be caught by means of a rod, real and line or handline.
- When handling your catch, always cradle the fish with a hand under the belly. Don’t hold a fish by the lower jaw and always support the fish's weight.
- When measuring fish, lay them on a wet, smooth surface.
The tidal waterways are also home to the highly sought after mud crab, a delicacy on anyone's plate. Two types of muddies are found in the region, the Green Mud Crab and the Brown Mud Crab. Size, bag and capture restrictions apply.
Please be aware that bag and size limits apply to most target species for off-shore fishing along our coastline.
A Recreational Licence is require for use of a cast (throw) net in the East Kimberley.
- Treat all fish humanely.
- Abide by all fishing regulations.
- Use only legally approved tackle.
- Bring all your rubbish home.
Fish for the future!
